Chicken Hot Dog (Loaded, Street Style)
چکن ہاٹ ڈاگ (لوڈڈ، اسٹریٹ اسٹائل)
Chicken hot dogs are a food-street and birthday-party favourite in Pakistan: a browned sausage in a soft roll, piled with buttery onions and peppers, melted cheese and three sauces. Scoring the sausages before cooking makes them curl and crisp at the edges, and a quick toast keeps the bun from going soggy. Everything is ready in 20 minutes, so it's an easy way to feed a crowd of children.

Method
Tap a step when it is done.
Make shallow diagonal cuts every 1 cm along each sausage, without cutting through.
Melt 1 tbsp butter on a or frying pan over medium heat. Add the onion and capsicum with the salt and pepper and cook for 6–7 minutes, stirring, until soft and golden. Push to one side.
Add the sausages and cook for 5–6 minutes, rolling them often, until browned and the cuts open up. (Pre-cooked sausages only need heating through; raw ones must be cooked until no longer pink inside.)
Split the rolls along the top without cutting through, spread the insides with the remaining butter and toast them face-down on the tawa for 1 minute.
Fill each roll with a sausage, a spoon of onions and peppers and a half slice of cheese (the heat will soften it). Zigzag over mustard, ketchup and garlic mayo, add jalapeños if you like, and serve with fries.
Kitchen notes
Read the sausage packet: choose halal chicken sausages with a high meat content and few fillers.
For a party, cook the onions and peppers ahead and keep warm, then brown the sausages in batches and let children assemble their own.
Grilled version: cook the scored sausages over charcoal or under an oven grill for a smoky taste.
A food-street favourite
Hot dogs arrived in Pakistan with fast-food culture and found a home at food streets, school canteens and children’s parties. Pakistani versions almost always use chicken sausages and come loaded: sautéed onions and peppers, melted cheese and a criss-cross of sauces, often with garlic mayo that you won’t find on an American hot dog.
Small tricks, big difference
Scoring the sausages makes them cook evenly, curl attractively and develop crisp edges that hold the sauces. Cooking the onions slowly in butter until golden adds sweetness. Toasting the inside of the roll on the hot tawa keeps it from going soggy and adds a buttery crunch.
Choosing sausages
Most supermarket chicken sausages in Pakistan are already cooked and just need heating and browning. Check the label for halal certification and meat content. Better sausages taste better and have fewer fillers.
Serving
Serve with fries or masala fries, coleslaw and a cold drink. For a homemade alternative, try chicken nuggets or a grilled chicken burger. Sauces: garlic mayo.
Questions people ask
Are sausages healthy for children?
Processed sausages are best as an occasional treat. Serve them with plenty of vegetables and fruit, and for everyday meals choose homemade options like grilled chicken patties.
Can I make it in the oven for a crowd?
Yes. Put the filled rolls side by side in a baking dish, top with grated cheese and bake at 200°C for 8–10 minutes until the cheese melts.
