Spiceistry (spiceistry.com and its apps) is a recipe website. We want you to be able to cook from it without giving us anything. This page explains the little data that is collected and why.

No accounts

You don't need to sign up or log in, and we don't ask for your name, email or phone number to use the site.

Things stored only on your device

Ticked ingredients, saved recipes, your shopping list, meal plan, pantry choices, the prices you enter in the cost calculator and your language choice are stored in your own browser (or in the app on your phone) using local storage. They are never sent to us, and you can clear them at any time by clearing your browser's site data.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how many people visit, which recipes are popular and which pages need improving. It collects information such as the pages you view, how long you stay, the type of device and browser, and your approximate location (country or city, worked out from your IP address). Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (such as _ga) to recognise returning visitors. We don't use Analytics to identify you personally, and we don't send it your name, email or anything you type into the site.

In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, analytics cookies are switched off unless you give consent. You can opt out of Google Analytics on every website with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on. Read how Google uses this data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Our site is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes basic request data (such as IP addresses) to deliver pages securely and protect against attacks.

Advertising

In future, this site may show ads served by Google AdSense, and our apps may show ads served by Google AdMob. Google and its partners use cookies and device identifiers to show ads, which may be based on your visits to this and other websites. You can turn off personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings. Visitors from the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland will be asked for consent through a consent banner before such cookies are used. Until ads are added, no advertising cookies are set.

Voice control

Hands-free cook mode is off until you turn it on. When it's on, read-aloud uses your device's built-in voice. Voice commands use your browser's own speech recognition: in some browsers, such as Chrome, the browser maker (for example Google) processes the audio to turn it into text. We never receive or store your voice or what you say. Your browser will ask for microphone permission first, and you can turn it off at any time.

Cookies

See our cookie policy for the full list of cookies and how to control them.

Children

The site is a general-audience cooking website. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children, and the site has no accounts, comments or forms for children to submit information.

Your rights

Because we don't hold accounts or contact details, we usually have no personal data that identifies you. Analytics data is kept by Google for the retention period we set (14 months) and then deleted. If you have a question or a request about your data, please get in touch at hello@spiceistry.com.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
